Confessions of a Bibliophile

An aspiring writer and bookstore employee with an incredibly bad book-buying habit... I'll read just about anything (so long as it will appeal to my interests in some way), but my main loves are YA and sci-fi/fantasy. I also like quirky history and science books and will book nerd. A lot. Currently in the process of weeding out my personal library. Find me on Twitter @princess_starr or check out my YA book, Snowfall, on Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/240027

Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1)

Switched - Amanda Hocking This book started off very strong- I was really interested in finding out what made Wendy's mother snap and try to kill her daughter. I wanted to see what how the changeling idea could have been taken. What I ended up reading was another cut-and-paste YA paranormal book that tried to be different by saying "Oh, we're trolls! TOTALLY NOT LIKE FAERIES OR ANYTHING." (Even though the Trylle had little to do with traditional trolls.) The mythology was bland, I couldn't stand most of the characters (except for Rhys, I liked him) and the plot didn't go anywhere. Any question about Trylle society was blithely ignored for the sake of ~drama~ on Wendy's sake, which really annoyed me. I slogged my way through this and was severely disappointed.
